The name Simone Biles has been trending online globally as she has managed to become the top gymnast in the world recently. This achievement came after her success at the World Championships on the 13th of October 2019. With her last two gold medals won from the championship, Biles brought her total of world-title medals to a record-breaking 25, beating out the former top gymnast, Vitaly Scherbo of Belarus. By comparison, the next two gymnasts on the list, Kohei Uchimura and Svetlana Khorkina attained 21 and 20 medals respectively.
Biles’ achievements also extend to perfecting the skills attributed to her. She has currently three moves attributed to her name; two on the floor and one on the balance beam. Her signature balance beam dismount incorporating two backflips and two twists is the most difficult competed. It is considered to be so tricky that the international gymnastics federation reduced its points value to discourage future gymnasts from attempting it due to the risks involved.
Due to the demands of the sport, gymnasts frequently exchange athletic skills for more artistic ones as they age. However, Simone Bile’s greatest achievement is that she is performing both more strenuous and technically demanding skills than before. At only 22 years old, she is currently doing more challenging gymnastics than when she achieved four Olympic gold medals at the 2016 Rio games at 19 years old. Biles has raised the degree of difficulty for the entire sport and will certainly go down into the history books.
