A Remote Work Desk You Can Build in 3 Steps

An affordable DIY alternative perfect for social distancing

What's going on?

The COVID-19 has left many of us working from home due to community health measures to combat the spread of the virus. The sudden shift in working environment may be harder to adapt to than we would like to accept, but a quick way to ease into work from home life is to come up with a better temporary plan than just the living room couch.

Luckily for us, Danish furniture company Stykka has designed a desk to help office professionals get through the pandemic in true DIY fashion. The StayTheF***Home Desk costs $85 and can be built in under 10 minutes.

Even better, the desk is created using only three materials: cardboard, zip-ties, and a laser cutter, so it is 100 percent recyclable for when the home quarantine is over. But here’s the best part: Sytkka is also open-sourcing its design so anyone can download it and build their own desk for free.

The company’s head of brand and marketing Rasmus Taun calls their new desk a “triple cardboard sandwich,” saying our cardboard needs to be large enough to fold the top piece three times. However, we can download it and redesign it to suit whatever cardboard we have available. Don’t worry about it toppling over. The cardboard desk is sturdy and should be able to hold a laptop, keyboard, plants, and a desk lamp.
